Split top roubo workbench plans. Roubo workbenches are based off an 18th century french design from a craftsman named andré jacob roubo. The plans are very high quality and easy to read. It includes much about the history and theory of workbench design plus plans for building two different styles of bench.

The split top roubo bench plan was inspired by the bench illustrated in plate 11 of andre roubo s classic 17th century treatise on cabinetmaking l art du menuisier0 the design has been enhanced to incorporate the advantages that the benchcrafted tail vise and glide leg vise provide. We developed this plan so woodworkers could build a bench using our tail vise and glide leg vise without having to figure out all the details. The split top bench design primarily grew out of roubo s german cabinetmaker s bench documented in volume three of roubo s series. The tops are made by laminating 8 4 stock on edge for stability yielding tops 4 thick by 87 long. It s a sophisticated set of plans that take the guesswork out of building the workbench of your dreams. For this plan i use loose tenons reenforced.
